Darius, a senior at East St. Louis High, had a triple double (24
points, 10 rebounds, 10 blocks) as the Flyers beat previously
undefeated DeSmet High of St. Louis 59-54. A 6'9" power forward
who was averaging 25.4 points and 13.3 rebounds through Sunday,
he has signed to play for St. John's next year.

Emily Fenn, Westport, Conn.
Emily, a senior at Staples High, broke the state Class M and
state all-classes record in the 500-meter freestyle in successive
meets. Emily, who will swim at Michigan as a collegian, won the
Class M title in 4:58.51 and the state open meet four days later

Jeff Clark, Charleston, W.Va.
Jeff, a 6'4", 190-pound senior wide receiver at Nitro High, broke
national high school single-game records for catches (29) and
receiving yards (413) in a 37-8 victory over Roane County High.
He also had five touchdowns as the Wildcats' win allowed them to
finish the season at 6-4.

Bassirima Soro, Abidjan, Ivory Coast
Soro, 30, overcame a starting-line mix-up that required him to
run almost 28 miles to win the Tucson Marathon, which had a field
of more than 1,500 runners, in a time of 2:25:02. After Soro took
an hour and 50 minutes to catch the leaders, he cruised to a 3:20

Angie Francisco, Duluth
Francisco, a junior forward at Harvard, has scored 13 goals,
including two game-winners, and had 31 points in leading the
Crimson to a 10-2 start and a No. 1 national ranking. She amassed
16 goals and 35 assists last year as Harvard won its first

Parker Smith, Honolulu
Parker, an outside hitter at Punahou School, returned from a
sprained ankle early in the final game to ignite a 9-1 rally that
catapulted the Buff'n Blues to a 15-9 victory over Kamehameha
School and the state title for the sixth straight year. He had a
match-high 22 kills and 10 digs, and will play for UCLA next
