The Week March 7-13

Easy Does It
So predictable: Annika Sorenstam qualifies for the Hall of Fame
and complains about it.

Hart Attack
O.K., maybe the Tigerless field wasn't grrrrrreat! But Dudley
Hart's finish was.

Going Dutch
This is what we love about the Euro tour: A Dutchman, Rolf
Muntz, wins. In Qatar.

LPGA Because she has to wait until 2004 to be inducted,
Sorenstam, who whipped Pat Hurst in a playoff at the
Welch's/Circle K in Tucson, says she doesn't "feel like a Hall
of Famer." The tour, she says, "made the [entry] requirements
too easy."... At her current pace Karrie Webb, who joined the
tour in 1996, will spend more time waiting to fulfill the
10-year membership requirement for the Hall than she will need
to accrue the necessary qualifying points.

PGA Hart birdied the final four holes at the TPC at Heron Bay to
beat J.P. Hayes and Kevin Wentworth by a shot.... Next time
Brian Gay, whose birdie on the 71st hole was changed to a par
because he waited too long for the putt to drop, says he'll know
how to beat the 10-second rule. "If you run to the hole when you
hit your putt out of excitement, you're hurting yourself,
because once you're there, the clock starts. So you should
probably dillydally around."... The purse for next week's
Players Championship has been raised to $6 million ($1.08
million to the winner), making it the biggest prize in the
history of golf.

SENIOR *Well done. Hubert Green won the first Senior tour
tournament played in Mexico.... Green blistered La Vista Country
Club, in Puebla, for 11 birdies during his 10-under 62 on Sunday
and won by five strokes.

ALSO The last Netherlander to win a pro event in Europe was Joop
Ruhl, at the '47 in the Dutch Open.... A record 496 courses
opened in the U.S. last year, breaking the previous mark of 468,
set in '95.
