Hockey Drew, a junior forward at Westhill High, scored a natural hat trick in just 57 seconds in the first period and later added another goal and two assists in a 7-2 defeat of Fairfield High. He led the state with 41 goals for the season, pushing his career total to 102.

Gymnastics Vetere, a sophomore All-America at Michigan, won the all-around (with a school-record 58.700 points), the pommel horse and the rings to lead the Wolverines to the Big Ten men's championship for the second consecutive year. He's a member of the national team.

COLOR PHOTO: THOMAS G GRIFFIN Keith Cupp, Columbus, Ohio Wrestling Keith, a junior at Hamilton Township High who was ranked seventh in Ohio, beat Sam Vanni of Medina Highland and No. 2-rated Joe Heiland of Shelby High to win the Division II 152-pound class at the state meet. The victory was his 34th straight this season.

COLOR PHOTO: BOB STOCKFIELD LaKesha Wills, Baltimore Basketball LaKesha, a senior center at Dunbar High, scored a game-high 21 points and pulled down 12 rebounds in a 53-36 win over Linganore High to lead the Poets to their first Class 2A girls' state championship. She led Dunbar High with 24.0 points and 14.5 rebounds per game this season.

COLOR PHOTO: JUSTIN KASE CONDERS Bob Bennett, Fresno Baseball Bennett, 66, the coach at Fresno State, guided the 20th-ranked Bulldogs to a 9-5 defeat of Rice for his 1,200th career win to become the fifth-winningest active Division I coach. In his 32 seasons Fresno State has averaged nearly 40 wins per season and has won 17 conference championships.

Track and Field Dathan, a junior at Rockford High, won the boys' two-mile run at the Nike Scholastic Indoor Championships in 8:52.94, breaking the national record for high school juniors. The victory gave Dathan his third national high school title. He's also the state high school indoor champion in the 1,600 meters.
