The Week March 21-27

Give 'em Hal!
Hal Sutton showed how to be a hero: Stand up to Tiger instead of
rolling over for him.

The Bore at the Shore
A tougher test for Karrie Webb: trying to tell the Wongluekiets
apart.

Playing Doctor
First start of the season and Gil Morgan already has Tom Kite
and Tom Watson beaten.

Rio Bravo
The Euro tour hit its sixth continent of 2000, and Roger Chapman
was its sixth first-time winner.

PGA Here are the final numbers from the Players Championship:
45, 21, 11, 10. That's how many balls were hit into the water
each round on the 17th hole at the TPC at Sawgrass.... Defending
champ David Duval, who finished 13th, disposed of a ball (in a
trash can after a triple bogey last Friday) and a putter (to a
young fan after 31 putts on Saturday).

LPGA Webb's 10-stroke runaway in the Nabisco Championship was
the fourth-largest margin of victory ever in a women's major....
Judy Rankin has been nominated for the Hall of Fame by the
tour's veterans' committee and is considered a lock to be
approved by the required 75% of the LPGA membership.

SENIOR Morgan, who beat Larry Nelson by four shots in the
Emerald Coast Classic in Milton, Fla., used ice packs and an
electric stimulator and visited a chiropractor after each round
to treat a pulled rib muscle that had prevented him from playing
for most of the season.... A year ago Bob Duval was celebrating
winning on the same weekend as his son, David. Last Saturday he
had to withdraw from the Emerald Coast. X-rays revealed that he
had fractured his right elbow while hitting a shot out of a
hazard.

ALSO Chapman, a 40-year-old with 472 starts on the European
tour, beat Padraig Harrington on the second hole of a playoff in
the Brazil Rio de Janeiro 500 Years Open. The tournament, the
first ever for the tour in South America, celebrated the 500th
anniversary of the discovery of Brazil by a European, Pedro
Alvares Cabral.
