The Week April 11-17

'N Cink
An early pick for Pebble Beach? MCI Classic winner Stewart Cink
has three top 16s in four U.S. Opens.

Killer D
Last year Juli Inkster won the Longs Drugs Challenge by four
shots. This year she did it by five.

Doug Tewell survived nine inches of rain and six delays to win
the last of 59 PGA Seniors in Florida.

Not Europe over Great Britain-Ireland in the Ballesteros Trophy,
but Seve over Monty in singles.

PGA What is more revealing about Masters champ Vijay Singh: That
he closed with a 64 to tie for third at Harbour Town? Or that
seven days earlier his parting words at Augusta National, spoken
to the night air, were, "Kiss my ass, everybody"? Singh refused
to explain his remark, which was overheard by two journalists.

LPGA About 50 friends and family members witnessed Inkster's
23rd win, at Twelve Bridges Golf Club in Lincoln, Calif.,
including her mother-in-law, Lou Inkster, a tournament volunteer
who cleaned shoes for the players. But not her
daughter-in-law's. "Of all people, I wasn't going to make her
clean my shoes," Juli said.

SENIOR Bruce Edwards had good reason to drop everything last
weekend and rush home to Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., leaving a
friend, Kevin Dennis, to fill in for him as Tom Watson's caddie.
On Saturday night Edwards reportedly called his wife, Sue, and
asked for a divorce. She allegedly responded by setting their
house on fire, causing extensive damage.

ALSO Thanks to a 2-and-1 win by the 590th-ranked Ballesteros
over No. 3 Colin Montgomerie, Europe beat Great Britain-Ireland
13 1/2-12 1/2 in the Ryder Cup-style event at Sunningdale Golf
Club, outside London.... Since making holes in one on three
consecutive days in March at Brookfield Hills Golf Course in
Waukesha, Wis. (SI, April 10), Brian Lowe has made two more at
the course.... Chad Campbell, 25, of Andrews, Texas, won his
third straight Hooters tour event, the Michelob Light Classic in
Columbia, S.C., and his fourth in six starts.
