--PGA The 13-under 58 shot by SHIGEKI MARUYAMA on Monday at
Woodmont Country Club in Rockville, Md., is the lowest U.S. Open

it occurred in a qualifying round....Kemper Open winner TOM
SCHERRER's 13-under 271 at the TPC at Avenel in Potomac, Md.,
shots....Scherrer is the Kemper's third first-time winner in the
last five years and the ninth in its 42-year history....Scherrer

hockey team....The Supreme Court is not expected to decide until
the fall whether it will hear the Tour's appeal of the ruling
that CASEY MARTIN can use a cart....When Martin missed a putt at
the Kemper on Sunday, a fan yelled, "Too bad, cheater."...

--LPGA Inkster's bogeys on the last two holes at the Kathy
Ireland Classic in Myrtle Beach., S.C., opened the
door for Park, who parred 18 to beat Inkster and PAT HURST by a
shot....Park's win was the first of the year by a rookie on
either the LPGA or the PGA Tour.

--SENIOR Irwin, who topped GIL MORGAN by a stroke at the
BellSouth Classic in Nashville, got his 27th win in his 118th
start. LEE TREVINO got his 28th in his 222nd....MILLER BARBER,
69, fired a 68 last Friday to become the only Senior to better
his age this year.

--ALSO DARREN CLARKE defended his title at the English Open,
shooting 65 in the final round to overcome a six-shot
deficit....Howell's 23-under 265 broke the NCAA tournament
record by six strokes.
