Track and Field Michael, an eighth-grader at Bogle Junior High, won the 100 (10.9 seconds), 200 (21.75) and 400 (49.78) meters, setting state junior high records in all three events, at the Arizona Junior High School Championships. He also leaped 19'2" to win the long jump competition.

Softball Laura, a senior at Burlington Catholic Central High, pitched three straight no-hitters, including a 1-0 win over Kettle Moraine Lutheran, to lead the Hilltoppers to the Division II state title. She finished the season 16-2 with a 0.49 ERA and 236 strikeouts in 128 innings.

She later paired with Caroline Downs to defeat Meghan and Laural Thompson of West Point High 6-0, 6-0 to win the doubles title.

Markland Kelly Award as the state's best private-school lacrosse player. He completed his varsity career as the Lakers' leading scorer, with 285 points on 116 goals and 169 assists.

Bowling Bluto, 70, a former legal secretary who began bowling 40 years ago, defeated Peggy Hopkins of Ontario and Ruea Meldahl of Finley, S.Dak., with an eight-game total of 1,493 to win the Women's International Bowling Congress Senior championship.
