Value Judgment
With a .360 average, 36 home runs and 112 RBIs through Sunday,
Carlos Delgado ranked among the top three in the American League
in each Triple Crown category. The numbers make Delgado a
leading MVP candidate but hardly a lock for that honor. Of nine
hitters in both leagues who finished among the top trio in those
categories since Carl Yastrzemski of the Red Sox won the last
Triple Crown, in 1967, six, including Dick Allen (left), were
named MVP.
