Tiger Delivers
Wasps, rain, flu, dark of night. Nothing could keep Woods from
his appointed rounds.

Second Nature
In Reno, Scott Verplank ends a long dry spell by beating Jean
Van de Velde and Bob May.

You Da Ma'am
On the way to a sixth victory, Karrie Webb goes as low as any
woman has ever gone.

King Fish
Larry Nelson's third W is cool, but Arnie's shooting a stroke
under his age is way cooler.

Morning-after Pill
Jeff Quinney woke from a nightmare to end the U.S. Amateur with
a 30-foot putt.

--PGA Woods's 21-under 259 in the NEC Invitational at Firestone
Country Club in Akron is a tournament record, and his 61 on
Friday ties his career low.... Tiger holds the Tour record for
consecutive rounds in the red, with 31.... In the last two
seasons Woods has won more money ($14,309,406) than any other
player has in his career except Davis Love III ($14,563,855)....
Verplank drained an eight-foot birdie putt on the fourth hole of
a playoff with Van de Velde at the Reno-Tahoe Open for his first
win since 1988. May finished a shot back.... Butch Baird holds
the record for the most time between victories, more than 15

--LPGA Webb beat Meg Mallon by two shots at the Oldsmobile
Classic in East Lansing, Mich., with a 23-under 265. Webb's
second-round 61 tied the LPGA record.... Webb jumps from fifth
to second on the career money list with $5,966,870 in 116
starts, $815,129 behind what Betsy King has won in 647 events.

--SENIOR Despite not practicing because of a bad back, Nelson
won the FleetBoston Classic in Concord, Mass., by four strokes
over Jim Thorpe.... Palmer's 69 came in the second round, during
which he holed a 119-yard wedge shot for eagle.

--ALSO Quinney's 39th-hole victory over James Driscoll in the
Amateur final was his 18th straight match win. He also took the
Oregon and Pacific Northwest amateurs.... Aree Wongluekiet shot
a final-round 66 to successfully defend her PGA Junior title,
beating sister Naree by a stroke.
