Motorcycle Racing Ryan, 13, drove his Kawasaki KX80 up a 190-foot, 65-degree hill in 8.861 seconds to win his third 85-cc title, this one in the 12-15 age group, at the national amateur hillclimb championship. In the 125-cc competition he finished second in 6.817, as the youngest entrant in the field of 39.

Baseball Paul, 16, was named MVP of the Connie Mack World Series after pitching the champion Encinitas Reds past South Troy (N.Y.) 11-1, allowing three hits and striking out 15 in his second complete-game victory of the series. He had an 0.50 ERA and 23 strikeouts in his 18 innings.

He then finished third at the Junior Olympics, an event at which he won gold last year, even though a muscle spasm in his back forced him to withdraw.

Swimming James, who recently turned 13, won every freestyle event he entered this year, including the 11-12-year-old boys' 50 meters at the Northwest Suburban Swim League championship, which he swam in 28.80 seconds. He has won league titles in three age groups in five seasons.

Weightlifting Mike, a senior at Northeast High in Arma who began lifting two years ago as training for football, won the state Class 2A high school weightlifting title in the 220-pound class.
