Florida State at Miami
CBS NOON For five straight years Miami (3-1) has been manhandled
and panhandled by its neighbors to the north. This year, however,
No. 1 Florida State (5-0) will need to batten down the defensive
hatches to withstand the No. 7 Hurricanes' quality offensive
talent, which includes quarterback Ken Dorsey and receivers
Santana Moss and Reggie Wayne.

Undercover: Stolen Gold
HISTORY CHANNEL 10 PM The History Channel? That's what cheeky
members of the press dubbed NBC for its tape-delay coverage of
the Sydney Games. In this one-hour documentary, host Arthur
Kent, with assistance from Olympic historian David Wallechinsky,
examines seven we-wuz-robbed moments of Summer Games past.
Disappointed Sydney gymnast Svetlana Khorkina of Russia, victim
of an improperly set up vault, may wonder, as do we, why only
Americans are featured.

MONDAY 10/9

Buccaneers at Vikings
ABC 9 PM There's a funny Bud Light ad in which the pitchman
offers to send a team of Vikings to wreak havoc upon events that
you don't wish to attend, such as family reunions. Or Arizona
Cardinals games. Dennis Green's 4-0 Vikings are too busy
remaining undefeated to answer that call. With second-year
quarterback Daunte Culpepper flipping passes to wideouts Cris
Carter (now the NFL's No. 2 alltime leading receiver) and Randy
Moss, Minnesota will put its unblemished record on the line
against the roughhouse defense of Tampa Bay (3-2).

National League Championship Series

How deep in its pockets did Fox dig last week to land exclusive
postseason and All-Star Game rights beginning next season and
running through 2006? Well, lead play-by-play man Joe Buck is now
just Joe. Actually, Fox spent only $2.5 billion, or 44% more than
the current deal. This year Fox must be praying for a rematch of
last October's stirring National League Championship Series
dustup between the Braves, with this season's 21-game winner, Tom
Glavine (above), and the Mets. NBC, with insuperable play-by-play
man Bob Costas (two words: jet lag), promises to telecast all of
the American League Championship Series live.

THE ZAPPER

ESPN's College Gameday travels to a different game each week,
and analyst Lee Corso has picked the victor of that game 16
consecutive times, dating back to the beginning of last season.
This year's 4-0 record includes no upset selections.... Are
baseballs juiced? Maybe, but many baseball players are too, say
Rangers outfielders Chad Curtis and Gabe Kapler on HBO's Real
Sports (Tuesday, 10 p.m.). Armen Keteyian examines
anabolic-steroid use in the majors and has Curtis and Kapler
(who has graced muscle-mag covers) voluntarily take drug tests.
The results are negative.
