Highlights

SATURDAY 10/14

American League Championship Series
NBC 7:30 PM Tempus Puget. Has it really been five years since
the Yankees met the Mariners in the postseason, losing in a
decisive Game 5 in the now imploded Kingdome? New York, three
world championships richer since then, enters Seattle's Safeco
Field in tonight's Game 4 to battle one of baseball's best
hitters, Edgar Martinez, and arguably its best player, shortstop
Alex Rodriguez. Wonder if Ken Griffey Jr. will be tuning in.

SUNDAY 10/15

Ravens at Redskins
CBS 1 PM With apologies to Baltimore's most renowned poet:

Once upon an aviary, while I pondered Mike McCrary,
Raymond Lewis, Rob Burnett and grid birds of Baltimore,
While I nodded, nearly dreaming, of a defense, 4-3 scheming,
Whose three shutouts in six games is the stuff of football lore.
"Points allowed?" I muttered. "Tippi Hedren did no flock ever
worse abhor."
Quoth the Ravens, "Never score."

MLS Cup 2000

ABC 1:30 PM Is it irresponsible to yell "Fire!" in a sparsely
populated stadium? Styles clash as Major League Soccer's most
potent offense meets the league's stingiest defense at RFK
Stadium. The Chicago Fire, led by California native Ante Razov
(18 goals), was the only club to score more than two goals per
match this season. The Kansas City Wizards, with New Jersey-born
goalkeeper Tony Meola and his league-record 16 shutouts, were the
only team to allow less than a goal per match.

Don't Miss

SATURDAY 10/14

Oklahoma at Kansas State
ABC 3:30 PM The No. 2 Wildcats (5-0), who host the No. 8 Sooners
(5-0), are more accustomed to welcoming rank teams than ranked
ones to Manhattan. In part by scheduling powderhouses like Ball
State (a 76-0 victim), Bowling Green (58-0) and Indiana State
(66-0), K-State has won 25 straight at home by an average margin
of 37 points. The victims list included no Top 10 foe, but that
could change today. Quarterback Josh Heupel of Oklahoma (page
120), who last week led a 63-14 rout of Texas, tests his arm
against a usually airtight Wildcats secondary. The next punt
return for a touchdown by Kansas State's David Allen (above) will
be his eighth, setting an NCAA career record.

ALL TIMES EASTERN. SCHEDULES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE.

THE ZAPPER

Forget closed captioning and the SAP option on our TV sets. Will
someone please develop an A-Train chip that bleeps out ABC
play-by-play man Brent Musburger whenever he refers to Michigan
tailback Anthony Thomas by that nickname, which is way too
often? It's too bad, because Musburger and partner Gary
Danielson call a terrific college game, surpassed in our book
only by ESPN's Ron Franklin and Mike Gottfried....
SportsCenter's "Slumber Party" ad is one atomic wedgie shy of
being a dead-on depiction of a teen sleepover. Very funny stuff.
