SI View The Week in TV Sports
Highlights
SATURDAY 10/21
Arizona at Oregon
FOX SPORTS NET 10:15 PM It's Revenge of the Nerds, which was
filmed in Tucson, versus Animal House, which was made in Eugene.
For years the Wildcats (No. 21, 5-1) and the Ducks (No. 7, also
5-1) were the Tri-Lambdas and the Delta House of the Pac-10,
respectively. Oregon has been to two Rose Bowls in the past half
century; Arizona, which joined the conference in 1978, has yet to
play a postseason game in Pasadena. That may change come Jan. 1.
The conference coleaders meet at Autzen Stadium, where the Ducks,
led by junior quarterback Joey Harrington, have won 18 straight.
Did somebody say, "Quack-10"?
SUNDAY 10/22
Presidents Cup, Final Round
NBC 10 AM Did that golfer say, "Fore!" or "Gore!"? (Equal-time
rules obligate us to say that driving a tee shot into a bush may
be the nadir of someone's round.) The even-numbered year
alternative to the Ryder Cup pits 12 of the U.S.'s best, among
them Tiger Woods, David Duval and Notah Begay III, against an
equal number of the world's top non-Europeans. Today's
competition from Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville,
Va., will consist exclusively of singles matches.
MONDAY 10/23
Dolphins at Jets
ABC 9 PM So swiftly does the defense of Miami (5-1) converge on
quarterbacks that we wonder if we aren't witnessing a Georgia
Tech punitive drill. Ends Trace Armstrong and Jason Taylor
already have 10 and five sacks, respectively, for a Dolphins D
that has allowed only one more touchdown (three) than it has
scored.
Don't Miss
SATURDAY 10/21
World Series
FOX SATURDAY AND SUNDAY 7:30 PM; TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY
8 PM New York? New York? As of Monday, unless the Mariners were
to spoil the scenario, a Subway Series between the Yankees and
the Mets (and Robin Ventura, above) seemed likely, maybe even
more likely than the listed ages of Yankee Orlando (El Duque)
Hernandez (31, though some say he's 35) and Met Timo Perez (23,
but rumored to be as old as 31). It has been 44 years since two
Big Apple teams met in the Fall Classic. That one, in '56, is
best remembered for Yankee Don Larsen's perfect game against the
Brooklyn Dodgers. If you remember the Brooklyn Dodgers, you're
even older than El Duque./
ALL TIMES EASTERN. SCHEDULES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE.

THE ZAPPER
Nobody planned it--nobody could--but only 57 seconds elapsed
between the final pitch of last Saturday's Cardinals-Mets Game 3
and the first pitch of Mariners-Yankees Game 4. Speaking of Game
4, lip-readers could have made out that Seattle shortstop Alex
Rodriguez used two of George Carlin's "seven words you cannot say
on television" after striking out in the seventh inning. Don't
blame A-Rod: He was in the dugout, where a batter should be
permitted to fume in private.... Does anyone look less
comfortable smiling than NBC's Jim Gray?
