Football Hoffman, a senior wide receiver at the University of Minnesota-Morris, became the Division II career receptions leader with 273 after catching 64 passes for 768 yards this season. Hoffman broke the mark of 262 set by Carlos Ferralls of Glenville (W.Va.) State from 1994 to '97.

Volleyball Aubrey, a senior at Washburn High, set a girls' state tournament record for kills with 84 as she led the Castle Guards to the Division 3 title. Aubrey, who'll play at Wisconsin next year, had 50 kills in Washburn's 10-15, 15-4, 2-15, 15-6, 15-3 win over Lutheran High of Lakeside in the final.

COLOR PHOTO: GERALD EWING Alfred Rugema, BUJUMBURA, BURUNDI Cross-country Rugema, a sophomore at Abilene (Texas) Christian University, won the Division II men's title by covering the 10-km circuit at Prado Park in Chino, Calif., in a course-record 30:17.0. He finished 41.3 seconds ahead of sophomore teammate John Kemboi of Kabirirsang, Kenya.

Tennis Karissa, a sophomore at Greater Latrobe Senior High in Latrobe, won the state Class AAA girls' singles championship by defeating sophomore Hilary Mintz of Bensalem High 6-1, 7-5 in the final. Karissa, who finished third at these championships in 1999, went 30-0 this season.

COLOR PHOTO: BILL ABOURJILIE Marina DiGiacomo, MENDOZA, ARGENTINA Field Hockey DiGiacomo, a senior midfielder at Old Dominion, led the Lady Monarchs to their ninth national crown, scoring their first goal in a 3-1 defeat of North Carolina in the title game. She finished her career as the NCAA career points leader with 414, on 167 goals and 80 assists.

COLOR PHOTO: RICK OWENS Kevin Sims, CHATTANOOGA Soccer Sims, 44, the coach at Girls Preparatory School, won his 300th career girls' match when his Bruisers beat the Webb School, of Knoxville, 3-0. He also got his 300th win as a boys' coach last spring at the McCallie School, which he led to the Division II state championship in 1999.
