Cross-country Olson, a junior at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, won the Division III individual championship three years to the day after she underwent surgery for a brain tumor. She was undefeated for the season and led the Norse to the Iowa Conference title for the second straight year.
COLOR PHOTO: SCOTT K. BROWN Dave Moody, DICKINSON, N.DAK. Volleyball Moody, 42, the women's coach at Dickinson State, led the Blue Hawks to their first NAIA crown in any sport, ending Columbia (Mo.) College's 106-match NAIA winning streak in the title game. He was named the NAIA women's volleyball coach of the year after Dickinson State finished 39-1.

Kern, a member of the 2000 U.S. Olympic team, was named tournament MVP for the second consecutive time.
COLOR PHOTO: ADAM BETTCHER Nicole Leimbach, COLORADO SPRINGS Tennis Nicole won the girls' 18 open regional in Dallas by beating 15-year-old Christyn Lucas of Miami 6-3, 6-3 in the final. Nicole, the youngest player in the tournament, turned 15 two days after her first-round match. She was the nation's top-ranked 14-and-under player last year.

PAUL Football Joe, a senior quarterback at Cretin-Derham Hall, was named Gatorade National High School Football Player of the Year after passing for 3,022 yards and 41 touchdowns this season. In the regional finals against Eagan High, he threw for seven TDs, tying the state single-game record.
