24 Hours of Tiger
THE GOLF CHANNEL 6 AM What do you get, on his 25th birthday, for
the man (specifically, Tiger Woods) who has everything? A
subscription to Maxim? No, silly, a full day's video record of
his greatest hits. The birthday bash--part of a weeklong
celebration consisting of Tiger-themed programming that begins on
Christmas (8 p.m.)--climaxes tonight at 8 p.m. with consecutive
hourlong highlight shows of each of Woods's trio of 2000 Grand
Slam wins.

NFL Wild-card Playoffs
SATURDAY ABC 12:30 PM AND 4 PM; SUNDAY CBS 12:30 PM (AFC) AND FOX
4 PM (NFC) Here's the skinny on a few probable wild-card teams.
Ravens: Coach Brian Billick looks too much like the dad on 7th
Heaven for his team to be taken seriously. Broncos: Though
running back Terrell Davis fell victim to the Campbell's Chunky
Soup jinx (see also Reggie White and Kurt Warner), Denver fans
(page 120) are semper fi because of his dazzling rookie
understudy, former Marine Mike Anderson. Eagles and Saints:
Quarterbacks Donovan McNabb (Philadelphia) and Aaron Brooks (New
Orleans) are so much fun that you forget they play in the NFL.

Tennessee at Connecticut
CBS 4 PM Today's Summitt meeting at Hartford Civic Center and the
rematch in Knoxville on Feb. 1 are little more than women's Final
Fourplay for the national champion Huskies. The second-ranked
Lady Vols (9-0 through Sunday) created an avalanche of publicity
with 6'5" center Michelle Snow's dunk. Top-ranked Connecticut,
meanwhile, was playing below the rim but above everyone else's
heads, having won its seven games by an average of 37.6 points.

Sugar Bowl and Orange Bowl
SUGAR, ABC TUESDAY 8 PM; ORANGE, ABC WEDNESDAY 8 PM The candidate
who received more popular votes nationally appears destined to
lose. Gore? No, Miami. Second-ranked in the AP and Coaches'
polls, the Hurricanes are tropically depressed that No. 3 Florida
State, whom they beat in October at the Orange Bowl (the stadium,
that is), has usurped their spot in the Orange Bowl (the game)
and a shot at the BCS national championship. Instead, the
Hurricanes have a date with Florida in New Orleans, while the
Seminoles, led by Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Chris Weinke
(above), play 12-0 Oklahoma, starring quarterback and Heisman
runner-up Josh Heupel (page 56).

THE ZAPPER

Last Thursday, as an ice storm hit Bristol, Conn., ESPN announced
that five-year veteran Larry Beil was leaving to become a weekend
anchor at ABC affiliate KGO in San Francisco. "I'm trading in the
Otis Elevator test shaft [a Bristol landmark] for the Golden Gate
Bridge," says a jubilant Beil (last SportsCenter: 6 p.m. on Dec.
29). So aloha really does mean goodbye.... Fox Sports Net, which
scored in 1998 with a documentary on Fresno State's basketball
program, is airing The Demons Within (Dec. 26, 8 p.m.), a
two-hour look at DePaul's up-and-down 1999-2000 season.
