PGA The six-man playoff that Allenby won at the Nissan Open at
Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif., was the
largest in a Tour event that went the distance...Allenby beat
Brandel Chamblee, Toshi Izawa, Dennis Paulson, Jeff Sluman and
Bob Tway on the first extra hole by making only the third birdie
of the weekend at the 447-yard par-4 18th...By following his 66
on Thursday with an 81, defending champion Kirk Triplett became
the first opening-round leader to miss the cut in a Tour event
since Rodney Pampling at the '99 British Open...Tom Bronkey, an
assistant pastor at the Orange County Christian Assembly in
Santa Ana, Calif., won a five-man playoff at a Monday qualifier
to get into the Nissan but shot 80-81 and missed the cut.

LPGA A newly announced tournament, the $1.2 million Augusta
International Championship, which is set for Sept. 20-23 at
Mount Vintage Plantation Golf Club, gives the tour a record 20
events with a purse greater than $1 million, eight more than
last year.

SENIOR McCullough's one-shot victory over Jim Colbert and Bob
Eastwood at the Mexico Senior Classic in Puebla was his first in
a 31-year pro career that includes 401 starts on the regular Tour.

ALSO In addition to the European tour's Singapore Masters, which
he won by two strokes over Warren Bennett of England, Singh has
won the Turespana Masters ('92), the Scandinavian Masters ('94)
and last year's U.S. Masters...Rookie pro Aaron Baddeley, 19,
finished 13th at the Australasian tour's season-ending Tour
Championship in Sydney, eight shots behind winner Peter Lonard,
but clinched the player of the year award. Allenby was the only
other man to win that tour's rookie and player of the year
awards in the same season, in '92.
