Yankees at Red Sox; Boston Marathon
MSG 11 AM; ESPN2 11:55 AM What better way to celebrate the 226th
anniversary of Paul Revere's ride (which is actually on April 18)
than by watching 17,000 people running 26.2 miles from suburban
Hopkinton to Boston's Copley Square? Well, how about by watching
new Red Sox slugger Manny Ramirez dog it running 90 feet from
home to first at Fenway (which is about a mile from the marathon
finish line)?

Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel
HBO 10 PM A look at basketball in black and white: Jim Lampley
talks to Meadowlark Lemon about how his days as a Harlem
Globetrotter wreaked havoc on his family life and why the
remarried Lemon, now a preacher who says he's "somewhere between
18 and 100," is pondering a comeback. Lampley points out that the
watershed moment in the Globies' transformation from serious
players to clown princes was the integration of the NBA in 1950.
In another segment Bernard Goldberg examines the state of the
white player 51 years later.

WEDNESDAY 4/18

Manchester United at Bayern Munich
ESPN2 2:30 PM HUNBELIEVABLE! screamed London's Daily Star in 1999
when Man U scored twice in stoppage time against Bayern to win
the UEFA Champions League final 2-1. Munich gets a shot at
revenge in this year's quarterfinals, and thanks to a goal by
Paulo Sergio in the first leg of the match, at Old Trafford on
April 3, it will take a 1-0 lead to Olympic Stadium. (The winner
is determined by aggregate goals over two games.) United will be
without midfielder David Beckham (a.k.a. Mr. Posh Spice), who
must sit out because of an accumulation of yellow cards.

Blue Grass Stakes, Wood Memorial, Arkansas Derby
ESPN 5 PM Railbirds will have a field day watching the Kentucky
Derby field take shape in this trio of races for 3-year-olds.
Here's a tip--in the Blue Grass Stakes at Keeneland you might get
better odds than are warranted on AP Valentine because not many
Lexingtonians are likely to root for him, let alone bet on him.
The reason: The bay colt, who has struggled of late and skipped
the Florida Derby, is owned by Rick Pitino, whose popularity in
University of Kentucky territory has plummeted since the former
Wildcats coach signed on with Louisville. The colt who won the
Florida Derby, Monarchos (above, with jockey Jorge Chavez), just
might be the horse to beat come Derby day. He'll lead the Wood
field at Aqueduct.

On Boston TV days before the 1986 World Series, Red Sox first
baseman Bill Buckner said, "The dreams are that you're going to
have a great Series and win, and the nightmares are that you're
going to let the winning run score on a ground ball through your
legs." Fox Sports Net's Beyond the Glory: Bill Buckner (Sunday, 8
p.m.) reveals that Buckner's family--but not Buckner--is still
sensitive about his legendary miscue.... During ESPN Classic's
presentation of Slap Shot (Sunday, 9 p.m.), Mario Lemieux says
that he has seen the film 15 times.
