COLOR PHOTO: JOHN PATRIQUIN Jamaal Caterina, PORTLAND, MAINE Basketball Jamaal, a senior swingman at Deering High, broke the Rams' career scoring record with 1,513 points as he led Deering to its first Western Maine division title in 64 years. He was named Maine's Mr. Basketball after averaging 22.9 points, 8.6 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 4.1 steals this season.

Softball Steeve, a sophomore pitcher at Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kans., threw three no-hitters in one week to tie the Cavaliers' career mark of five. She broke the mark two weeks later. As of Sunday she had a 28-3 record and 305 strikeouts in 212 innings in 2001.

Tennis Adair, 55, the boys' and girls' coach at Coronado High, surpassed the 1,000-career-victory mark when the Islanders' boys defeated University of San Diego High 14-4. Adair, who has guided the Coronado boys since 1967 and the girls since '73, had a record of 1,006-329 through Sunday.

Track and Field Harrelson, a senior at Appalachian State, won the women's 800, 1,500 and 3,000 meters for the second straight year at the Southern Conference championships. The league record holder in all three events, she won 23 conference titles, including three cross-country crowns, during her career.

Johnson High, became New Jersey's leading career boy scorer after he had six goals and three assists in a 19-5 defeat of North Hunterdon High. Matt, who had 250 goals and 77 assists as of Sunday, also broke the state career goals mark of 187 this year.
