Golf Kincer, 39, the women's coach at Methodist College, was named Division III women's coach of the year in her sport after guiding the Lady Monarchs to the division title for the fourth time in her four years with them. Methodist won by 50 strokes over runner-up Concordia College of Moorhead, Minn.

COLOR PHOTO: JERRY STEWART Egberto Caldas, RIO DE JANEIRO Tennis Caldas, a senior at Oklahoma City University, was named the NAIA male player of the year after leading the Stars to their fourth straight NAIA championship and a 23-2 record. A four-time All-America, he finished this season as the NAIA's top-ranked player.

COLOR PHOTO: TRACY FRANKEL Catherine OSTERMAN, HOUSTON Softball Catherine, a senior at Cypress Springs High, was named Gatorade player of the year in her sport after striking out 435 batters in 177 innings and finishing with a .000 ERA in 2001. Catherine, who will attend Texas on an athletic scholarship, ended her high school career with 1,141 whiffs and a .098 ERA.

Hockey Russel, a 46-year-old equity trading executive and the coach of the Mid-Fairfield Squirt A team, guided the Blues to the Division I state and New England regional championships. His teams have won five state crowns and four regional championships since 1992.

Water Polo McCarthy-Beauvais, a sophomore two-meter man at Princeton, broke the Tigers' women's career scoring record when she surpassed senior teammate Katherine Kixmiller's mark of 159. McCarthy-Beauvais, who now has 176 goals, was named MVP at the ECAC and southern divisional tournaments.

Track and Field Joseph, a senior at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, won the Division III outdoor title in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 51.72. Joseph, who was third in the 400 sprint at the indoor championships, was named the division's male outdoor track athlete of the year in the Central Region.
