Bowling Jackson, 36, an Air Force staff sergeant, broke the Guinness world record for marathon tenpins bowling when he rolled 138 games over the course of 36 hours and two minutes--nearly five hours longer than the previous mark. Jackson finished the session with a 171.33 average.

Baseball Sean, a junior at La Junta High, struck out 24 of the 33 batters he faced in the Tigers' 3-2 extra-inning loss to Eaton High in the state 3A championship. Sean threw 192 pitches during the 11 innings he worked in the title game and finished the season with 158 strikeouts and two no-hitters.

Tennis Berke, a sophomore at Yale, defeated three nationally ranked players (sixth, 11th and 66th) en route to becoming the first unranked male to reach the NCAA tournament quarterfinals. The Ivy League men's player of the year, Berke was the first Bulldog All-America in his sport since 1960.

Track and Field Jacquelyn, 16, a member of the Yuma Valley Flyers, won the young women's heptathlon at the youth athletics national championships with 4,788 points, finishing 136 points ahead of the runner-up. Jacquelyn is also the girls' national pentathlon record holder in the 13- and 14-year-old division.

Football Swart, 19, caught nine passes for 186 yards and two touchdowns in the Niagara X-Men's 26-22 loss to the Cambridge Lions in an Ontario 19-and-under summer league. In the same game, he returned three intercepted passes for 62 yards and a punt for 58 yards, and recovered an onside kick.

Karate Whitfield, 43, an assistant physical education instructor at Duke, became the eighth woman among the 600 enshrined in the World Karate Union Hall of Fame. Whitfield, who is also the head instructor of a karate academy, has participated in the sport for only nine years.
