The Week July 31-Aug. 6

If anyone knows the value of a win, it's Tom Pernice, who spent
12 years out of the top 125.

Yes, Se Ri
No wonder the LPGA stank it up at Bighorn. Pak, the tour's best
player, wasn't there.

Cleaning Up
Bobby Wadkins was 0 for 710 on the regular Tour, but he's
batting 1.000 as a Senior.

Monty's Revenge
Colin Montgomerie is back--to winning on the Euro tour after
fumbling a major.

PGA Pernice, 41, won for the second time in 14 years, taking the
International at Castle Pines Golf Club near Denver by a point
over Chris Riley.

LPGA Pak jumped from third to first on the money list by winning
the Women's British Open, her third career major and fourth
victory of the year, at Sunningdale Golf Club outside London.
Pak came from four shots back in the final round with a
bogeyless 66 for an 11-under 277, two better than Mi Hyun
Kim.... If Pak, 23, wins one of the next three Nabisco
Championships, she'll be the youngest woman with a career Grand
Slam.... Laura Diaz, who tied for third, was the lone American
in the top six.

SENIOR Wadkins made a rare double eagle on the 3rd hole of the
final round at the Lightpath Long Island Classic in Jericho,
N.Y., and then birdied the final hole to become the 10th man to
win his Senior debut. Wadkins, who has earned more money ($2.8
million) than any other winless PGA Tour player, shot a 14-under
202 at the Meadow Brook Club to top Allen Doyle and Larry Nelson
by a stroke.

ALSO Two weeks after his British Open fold-up, Montgomerie beat
Ian Poulter and Lee Westwood by a shot in the Scandinavian
Masters.... Heath Slocum became the second player to earn a
battlefield promotion to the big Tour by winning his third event of the year, the Omaha Classic.... Meredith
Duncan, a senior at LSU, birdied the 37th hole of the final
against Nicole Perrot, 17, to win the U.S. Women's Amateur.
Perrot was attempting to become the first player to win the U.S.
Junior and the Amateur in the same year.
