Judo Ronda, 14, went 9-0 while winning the 13-14 age-group national, international and Junior Olympic gold medals in the 134-pound class this summer. COLOR PHOTO: TED KIRK Nancy Metcalf, HULL, IOWA Volleyball Metcalf, a senior right side hitter, had 22 kills and 23 digs as she led top-ranked Nebraska past No. 8 Pacific 30-21, 32-30, 27-30 and 30-24 to win the State Farm Volleyball Classic. Metcalf, a two-time All-America, through Sunday was averaging 4.57 kills a game on a .357 hitting percentage.

At the Open he shot a 66 to beat Rick Hartmann, 42, of Bridgehampton, by three strokes. As a junior last year he led Virginia Tech to eighth at the NCAAs.

Swimming O'Connor Baker, 40, broke the women's 40-44 age-group world records in the 100- and the 200-meter backstroke (1:10.45 and 2:33.55, respectively) and the 50 and the 200 butterfly (29.59 and 2:29:81). She also set the 100 butterfly American record (1:05.60) in her age group.

Track and Field Jonathan, 17, won the boys' 200 meters in 20.95 and ran the 100 leg of the sprint medley team that took silver at the World Youth Championships. Jonathan, who also plays defensive back for Evangel Christian Academy, will attend Tennessee on track and football scholarships next year.

COLOR PHOTO: PHIL HOFFMANN Quinn Carney, FLEMINGTON, N.J.Lacrosse Carney, 22, a midfielder, scored three goals in a come-from-behind 14-8 victory against Australia to give the U.S. the World Cup championship for the fourth consecutive year. Carney, who was recently named assistant coach at Stanford, had 13 goals in the six-game tournament.
