Faces In The Crowd

Terry Gurnett, SPENCERPORT, N.Y.
Soccer
Gurnett, 46, earned his 300th career victory as women's coach at
the University of Rochester when he snapped Emory's 24-game
University Athletic Association unbeaten streak in a 1-0 win.
The 1980s Division III coach of the decade, he led the
Yellowjackets to division titles in '86 and '87.

Tony Azevedo, LONG BEACH, CALIF.
Water Polo
Azevedo, a freshman field player at Stanford, scored 14 goals in
four games at the NorCal Tournament, including two in a 7-4
victory over two-time defending national champ UCLA in the title
game. The Cardinal's leading scorer with 36 goals, Azevedo has
led 10-0 Stanford to the No. 1 ranking.

Emily White, FINKSBURG, MD.
Field Hockey
White, a sophomore goalkeeper at Virginia, made nine saves and
stopped four penalty strokes to help the No. 11 Cavaliers defeat
top-ranked Maryland 3-2. White leads the ACC with a .787 save
percentage and is second in goals-against average at 1.14.

Jason Bainum, WILLIAMSBURG, OHIO
Football
Jason, a senior tailback at Williamsburg High, broke the state
single-game rushing record by gaining 532 yards in a 46-0 win
over Clermont Northeastern High of Batavia. Jason, who set a
regular-season state record with 3,043 yards last year, has
2,767 yards and 37 touchdowns in eight games this fall.

Barbara Conley, NORTH PLATTE, NEB.
Weightlifting
Conley, 66, lifted 66 pounds in the snatch and 88 in the clean
and jerk to win the 65-and-over women's crown for the 165-pound
class at the world masters championships. Conley, who has won 10
U.S. masters titles, was inducted into the national masters Hall
of Fame last year.

Kim Glass, LANCASTER, PA.
Volleyball
Kim, a senior middle blocker at Conestoga Valley High, had a
total of 26 kills in wins over Lebanon Catholic and Lebanon High
to increase her career kills to 1,119 and help the Buckskins
clinch their eighth straight Section II championship. Kim was a
member of the U.S. junior team last summer.
