PGA Estes, who made a remarkable par on the 6th hole of the
final round by whacking his second shot out of a bush with a
driver, was a stroke better than Tom Lehman and Rory Sabbitini
in the Invensys Classic at Las Vegas.... Estes has had 17
straight rounds in the 60s and finished no worse than eighth in
his last four starts, jumping from 40th to ninth on the money
list.... Steve Williams, Tiger Woods's caddie, says that because
of security concerns he won't travel from his home in New
Zealand to this week's National Car Rental Classic in Lake Buena
Vista, Fla., marking the first time in three years that he'll
miss one of Woods's tournaments.
LPGA Ten of the 18 players who earned '02 cards at the final
stage of Q school at LPGA International in Daytona Beach were
non-Americans from seven countries.... England's Suzanne
Strudwick, 36, was the medalist (seven-under 281) and the oldest
qualifier, while Gulbis, an 18-year-old from Sacramento who
played one season at Arizona, tied for third and will be the
youngest player on tour.... Se Ri Pak has been sued by her
former caddie, Jeff (Tree) Cable, who claims she owes him back
wages.
SENIOR Rachels holed a 30-foot putt for eagle on the 500-yard
closing hole at Silverado Resort in Napa, Calif., for a 14-under
202 to win the Transamerica by a shot over Raymond Floyd and
Doug Tewell.
ALSO Woosnam, a 2-and-1 victor over Padraig Harrington in the
final at the Wentworth Club in Virginia Water, England, is the
first player to take a Cisco World Match Play in each of three
