A member of the 2000 junior national team, she led the nation with 6.71 kills per game as of Sunday.

Golf Stewart, 57, a retired firefighter, was named the Northern California Golf Association's senior player of the year after winning the association's senior amateur title and setting its senior amateur mark for tour points. At the 36-hole championship, he tied the event record for lowest score, with a 142.

Cycling Andy, 16, earned gold medals in the boys' age 17-18 sprint and boys' 15-16 omnium, a silver in the Olympic sprint and a bronze in the boys' 17-18 kilo at the junior national championships. Andy, who holds four U.S. junior records, also was first in the 200 meters at the junior world team trials.

GOINGS Melissa Bickett, AKRON Track and FieldBickett, 19, heaved the discus 161'11" to beat Arelis Quinones, 18, of Colombia by more than 10 feet and win the women's gold medal at the junior Pan Am Championships. Bickett, a sophomore at Michigan, placed third in the event at the Big Ten outdoor championships last spring.

Fencing Kamara, 16, won the silver medal in epee at the Coupe de President de la Ville, a class A junior world cup competition, to give her a No. 14 ranking in the junior world cup standings. The top-ranked junior in the U.S., Kamara is also the under-19 national epee champion.

PIO RODA Michael Gilman, ATLANTA Squash Michael, 17, became the No. 1 under-17 U.S. player when he beat Nicholas Chirls, 17, of Princeton, N.J., to win the national junior championships. A silver medalist at the 2000 under-17 Pan Am games, he helped the U.S. juniors to this year's title at the Canada American games.
