Cross-country Sally, a senior at Mountain Pointe High, won the girls' 5A state championship for the second straight year by running a 3.1-mile course in 17:22. Sally, who also led the Pride to the team title, won state crowns in the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 meters last spring and will attend Duke on an athletic scholarship.
COLOR PHOTO: DOUG EDINGTON Brian Dawson, PITTSBURGH Football Dawson, a junior quarterback at Washington & Jefferson College in Washington, Pa., became the Presidents' alltime passing leader, with 7,742 yards, when he threw for 336 in a 43-14 win over Malone College of Canton, Ohio. He completed 203 of 342 attempts for 3,207 yards and 28 touchdowns this year.

Field Hockey Chabot, a senior forward at Becker College in Leicester, was named the North Atlantic Conference player of the year after leading the 20-0 Hawks to the league title for the third season in a row. Chabot, a Division III regional All-America, also set league marks in goals and assists, with 20 and 22, respectively.

Water PoloPackard, 36, the boys' coach at Pioneer High for 15 seasons, guided the Pioneers to a 13-6 victory over Rockford High to clinch their fourth state championship in five years. Packard was named the Michigan Water Polo Association's coach of the year, a distinction he also won in 1988 and '97.
COLOR PHOTO: JOE ANGELES Dipsy Selolwane, GABORONE, BOTSWANA Soccer Selolwane, a senior forward at Saint Louis University, led the Billikens to the Conference USA title with four goals in the league tournament, and assisted on the winning score in Saint Louis's opening win in the NCAA tournament. Entering the NCAAs, Selolwane topped the nation with 1.41 goals a game.

HUFFER Megan Hammons, WEST LIBERTY, IOWA Volleyball Hammons, a senior outside attacker at Ball State, became the Mid-American Conference's alltime women's kills leader by pounding 13 against Northern Illinois to run her total to 1,712. An all-conference pick each of the last two years, she averaged 4.13 kills and 2.70 digs a game for the Cardinals this fall.
