Faces In The Crowd

Jennie Finch, LA MIRADA, CALIF.
Softball
Finch, a senior righthanded pitcher at Arizona, shut out
Louisiana-Lafayette 1-0 to win her 56th consecutive game, an
NCAA record. She struck out 12 in the one-hit victory. This
season Finch was 16-0 with an ERA of 0.48 and 162 strikeouts
through Saturday.

Robert Marshall, DOYLESTOWN, PA.
Wrestling
Marshall, 62, guided Delaware Valley College to its 10th Middle
States Atlantic Conference championship. He was named the league
coach of the year in his sport for the fifth time and will be
inducted into his seventh Hall of Fame this summer. In 28 years
of coaching the Aggies, he's 363-67-0.

Amalia Sarnecki, ANN ARBOR, MICH.
Swimming
Amalia, a senior at Dexter High, set a state girls' record in
the 100-yard breaststroke of 1:04.75. She also successfully
defended her title in the 200 individual medley, in which she
holds the state mark of 1:08.21, and was named Michigan female
swimmer of the year for class B, C and D schools.

Shanna Zolman, SYRACUSE, IND.
Basketball
Shanna, a senior at Wawasee High, scored 50 points in a 82-40
win over Elkhart Memorial to become the state's career scoring
leader for girls. She led Indiana girls in scoring in all four
of her varsity seasons and finished with 3,085 points and a 33.2
average.

Shane Komine, HONOLULU
Baseball
Komine, a senior pitcher for Nebraska, earned national player of
the week honors after a one-hit 9-4 win over McNeese State in
which he struck out 14 of the 25 batters he faced. The
Cornhuskers' only two-time first-team All-America, he has set
school records for wins, innings pitched and strikeouts.

Cali King, HEALY, ALASKA
Dogsled Racing
Cali, 17, won the Junior Iditarod with a time of 23:27:04 over a
162-mile course near Anchorage. The daughter of three-time
Iditarod champ Jeff King, she beat last year's Junior winner,
17-year-old Tyrell Seavey of Seward, Alaska, by 33:26. Cali also
plays volleyball, basketball and soccer at Tri-Valley High.
