Marc Courtney-Brooks, COLUMBUS, OHIO
Swimming
Courtney-Brooks, a sophomore at Kenyon College, helped set two
Division III records, won two individual titles and was part of
four victorious relay teams as he led the Lords to their record
23rd consecutive Division III crown. He was named the division's
swimmer of the year.
Randi Morgan, MITCHELL, S.DAK.
Basketball
Morgan, a Dakota Wesleyan University sophomore, scored her
family's 10,000th point for the Tigers with 18 in an 85-73 win
over the University of Sioux Falls. The youngest of six siblings
to play for the Tigers, she led them to the NAIA Division II
final and became divisional women's player of the year.
Mike Pedro, LYNN, MASS.
Wrestling
Mike, a senior at St. John's Prep, won a New England title for
the second year in a row and a Division I state crown for the
fourth straight season. He set Massachusetts marks for career
wins and pins, with 213 and 153, respectively, while going a
state-record 61-0, including a national-high-school-best 54 pins.
Imo Akpan, THE BRONX
Track and Field
Akpan, a senior at Swarthmore, won a Centennial Conference-record
six gold medals at the league's indoor championships, including
school-record performances in the 55- and 200-yard dashes, the
long jump and the 4x400 and the distance medley relays.
Danny Price, MIAMI
Baseball
Price, 50, the coach at Florida International, guided the Golden
Panthers to a 16-10 victory over Kansas State for his 900th
career win, becoming the 35th coach to reach that number. Price's
record stands at 906-457, all in 23 years at Florida
International.
Brooke Whitney, SNOHOMISH, WASH.
Hockey
Whitney, a senior center at Northeastern, finished the season as
the ECAC East's leading scorer--and the nation's third best--with
56 points in 32 games. She also ranked third in the nation in
goals per game (0.91) and was tied for first with three
shorthanded scores and nine game-winning goals.
