Faces in the Crowd

Michele Dlugosz, HATFIELD, PA.
Softball
Dlugosz, a senior outfielder at King's College in Wilkes-Barre,
stole a base in the first game of a doubleheader against Lebanon
Valley College, bringing her career total to 151, a Division III
women's record. She has 43 steals this year for a grand total of
157.

Janice Tosa, JEMEZ SPRINGS, N.MEX.
Track and Field
Janice, a senior at Jemez Valley High, defended her state Class
2A track title in the 3,200-meter event with a time of 11:53.24,
winning by more than five seconds. She also won the 1,600 for the
Warriors with a time of 5:19.97.

Akeem Carter, WATERLOO, IOWA
Wrestling
Akeem, a senior at Waterloo West High, won his second consecutive
state championship and was undefeated this season in the
189-pound class. His previous title came in the 171-pound
division. Akeem won 79 consecutive matches.

Jerry Lacey, DALLAS
Tennis
Lacey, 52, the coach at the all-boys' St. Mark's School of Texas,
guided his team to a 15-0 record and the Southwestern Preparatory
Conference title this season. The Lions also went a combined
109-0 in singles and doubles play, including 105 straight-set
wins.

Christine McPike, FARMINGDALE, N.Y.
Lacrosse
McPike, a senior midfielder at North Carolina, was named the ACC
player of the year and was the MVP of this season's ACC
tournament as she led the Tar Heels to the conference
championship and the NCAA Final Four.

Lynn Thompson, CINCINNATI
Golf
Thompson, 44, a junior at Thomas More College in Crestview Hills,
Ky., won the Division III women's golf title. She placed first in
four tournaments this spring and tied for first in another,
leading the division with a 76.25 stroke average.

Andy Myers, ALEXANDRIA, VA.
Baseball
Myers, a senior first baseman at Franklin & Marshall College, was
named the Centennial Conference player of the year after leading
the conference in hits (63), RBIs (49) and average (.429). He is
the fifth player in conference history to have 60 or more hits.
