Norton Davey, OCEANSIDE, CALIF.
Triathlon
Davey, 83, became the oldest person to qualify for the Ironman
Triathlon World Championship when he won the 80-plus age group
in the Half Ironman California Triathlon. He completed the
1.2-mile swim, 56-mile cycle and 13.1-mile run in 8:34:09.

J.B. Haglund, BRENTWOOD, TENN.
Track and Field
Haglund, a senior at Haverford (Pa.) College, was named
outstanding men's track athlete at the NCAA Division III
championships after he won the 5,000- and 10,000-meter races. He
also won championships in the fall and winter racing seasons.

Sarah Bennis, POWNAL, MAINE
Softball
Sarah, a senior righthander at Greely High in Cumberland,
pitched three consecutive perfect games to close the regular
season. She had an ERA of .240 this year and is the school's
career leader in wins (49) and strikeouts (365).

Jonathan Khan, TUCSON
Golf
Jonathan, 13, shot a final-round 62 to win his age group in the
International Junior Golf Tour's Tournament of Champions at the
Grand Cypress Resort in Orlando. He was nine under par for the
54-hole tournament.

Meagan DiCave, EDDYSTONE, PA.
Lacrosse
DiCave, a senior attack at Virginia Wesleyan, led Division III
in scoring with 70 goals and also had 59 assists. Her 129 points
was the highest across all NCAA divisions. DiCave holds 12
career, season or single-game records in her school's
five-year-old program.

Harry Shatel, MORRISTOWN, N.J.
Baseball
Shatel, 58, became the winningest coach in New Jersey high
school baseball history this season, with a record of 660-288-7.
He has won 11 county championships, six state sectional
championships and one state title in his 34 years with the
Morristown Colonials.

Amber Gazverde, FLOWER MOUND, TEXAS
Bowling
Gazverde, a sophomore at Central Missouri State, was named
women's collegiate bowler of the year by the Bowling Writers
Association of America and the National Collegiate Bowling
Coaches Association. She led the Jennies with a 212.5 average.
