Pauline Lauterbach, ATLANTA
Ultimate Frisbee
Lauterbach, a senior at Brown, was voted female college player of
the year. She was captain of a Brown team that won the Southern
New England sectional in 2002 and finished ninth in the country
behind women's champion UC San Diego.

Ryan Shields, CHICAGO
Track and Field
Ryan, a senior at Leo High, became the first runner in Illinois
history to sweep the 100-, 200- and 400-meter sprint events at
the state championships three years in a row. His times were
10.77, 21.41, and 46.76; he was last beaten in a race in April
2000.

Mandy Nightingale, SAPULPA, OKLA.
Waterskiing
Nightingale, 22, set a women's national tricks record for the
17-24 age group during the U.S. waterskiing team trials in
Houston. Nightingale earned 7,780 points by successfully
executing 24 tricks during the two 20-second passes allotted to
each competitor.

Chris Getz, GROSSE POINTE, MICH.
Baseball
Chris, a righthanded relief pitcher at Grosse Point South High,
was named the state's co-Mr. Baseball after finishing his career
with a 12-0 record and 23 saves. His team never lost a game in
which it was ahead or tied when he entered.

Val Halesworth, OYSTER BAY, N.Y.
Football
Halesworth, 36, a quarterback for the New York Sharks, led her
team to a 9-0 record and the first championship of the
Independent Women's Football League. She threw for 24 touchdowns
and scored six rushing touchdowns this year.

Rami Zur, CHULA VISTA, CALIF.
Kayaking
Zur, 25, won a gold medal in the 500 meters with a time of
1:39.761 at the 22nd International Regatta in Duisburg, Germany.
Zur, who also reached the finals in the 200 meters, is the first
American competitor in 10 years to win gold at the regatta.

Amanda Mathis, PICAYUNE, MISS.
Golf
Amanda, 17, won the 36-hole Mississippi junior girls' state
amateur championship by 10 strokes. She also won the all-ages
women's state amateur this year and shot the low individual score
in the Class 4A state high school tournament.
