Jacey Honey, ROCKY FORD, COLO.
Rodeo
Jacey, a junior at Swink High, won the All-Around Cowgirl title
at the National High School Rodeo Finals in Farmington, N.Mex.
She finished second in goat tying and fifth in pole bending,
helping the Colorado team to a fourth-place finish.
Kerron Clement, LA PORTE, TEXAS
Track and Field
Kerron, 16, a senior at La Porte High School, won the 400-meter
hurdles in 49.77, edging high school-record holder Kenneth
Ferguson of Detroit at the National Junior Olympics. It was the
first time two U.S. high schoolers ran under 50 seconds in the
same race.
Tommy Hood Jr., COLUMBIA, S.C.
Karate
Hood, 26, won his eighth national title in nine years for 70-75
kilos at the USA National Karate-Do Federation Championships in
Norfolk. A week later he won a gold medal in the event at the Pan
American Championships in Puerto Rico.
In-Bee Park, EUSTIS, FLA.
Golf
In-Bee, 14, won the U.S. Girls' Junior Championship in Westfield,
N.J., defeating Jenny Tangtiphaiboontana of Long Beach, Calif., 4
and 3 in match play. In-Bee is the second-youngest person ever to
win the event, which is open to players up to age 17.
Landon Marzullo, COLUMBUS, OHIO
Diving
Landon, 13, won the one-meter, three-meter and platform
13-and-under events at the Junior National Diving Championships
at Stanford. He also competed in junior world team trials and
earned spots in the one-meter and platform events.
Richard Busa, MARLBOROUGH, MASS.
Endurance running
Busa, 72, a retired records manager, became the oldest person to
complete the Vermont 100 Mile Endurance Run, in South Woodstock.
He finished 174th out of 272 entrants with a time of 28:37:22.
This is the seventh time he has run the race.
Blake Schoen, OXFORD, IND.
Football
Schoen, 19, a linebacker, had five tackles and an interception
for the North in a statewide all-star game, making it the second
sport in which he had played for all-star teams this summer. In
basketball he scored 17 points on 6-of-7 shooting against
Kentucky's all-stars.
