In the Crease

Besides developing into a top scorer, the Flames' Jarome Iginla
has taken a leadership role. Last week Calgary's undersized
center, Marc Savard, was run over by the Stars' 6'2", 210-pound
forward, Bill Guerin. Iginla immediately challenged Guerin to
fight and pummeled him. Iginla was not only sticking up for his
teammate but also trying to ignite his team, which rallied to tie
the game 3-3.... The league's mandate to use dark protective
netting behind the goals during games has been met by grumbling
from fans, who are unhappy that their view is obstructed. The NHL
might want to consider the white netting at the Flyers' practice
facility, which is nearly invisible.... Give the Sabres' Chris
Gratton credit for putting his team ahead of himself. Gratton is
playing with a broken left foot, refusing surgery because he
doesn't want to leave the club shorthanded.
