Cretti, a Williams College freshman, won four of her final five
races as she led the Ephs to their first Division III title.
Williams won the team title over two-time defending champion
Middlebury by 103 points, a record margin for the division.
Brian Baker, NASHVILLE
Brian, 17, defeated Mathieu Montcourt of France (7--6, 6--2) to
win the boys' 18-and-under title at the Burger King Orange Bowl
International Championships. Brian is the first American to win
that title since Andy Roddick did so in 1999.
Kirby Chambliss, PHOENIX
Chambliss, a 43-year-old airline pilot, won the individual
national championship in aerobatics, a form of competitive stunt
flying. Chambliss, an individual world champion in 2000, will
captain the U.S. team at the '03 world championships.
Chun Yi Lin, PING-TUNG, TAIWAN
Lin, a freshman middle blocker at BYU-Hawaii, led the Seasiders
to a sweep of Truman State in the finals of the Division II
championships. She had a .611 kill percentage and 23 kills, her
second-highest kill total of the season.
Mike Firkus, HILBERT, WIS.
Mike, a senior running back at Hilbert High, broke the state
career rushing record with 6,707 yards. Mike finished with 94
touchdowns and an average of 8.29 yards per carry; he gained more
than 2,000 yards all three years he started.
Kim Morrill, LAYTON, UTAH
Morrill, a senior center at William Penn University in Iowa,
blocked 17 shots during a 76--66 loss to the University of
Dubuque, setting an NAIA Division II record. Through 11 games
Morrill led the Lady Statesmen in rebounding as well as blocked
Troy Sauer, MIDDLEBURG, PA.
Sauer, a senior forward at Messiah College, scored a goal off a
direct kick from 20 yards to lead the Falcons to a 1--0 win over
Otterbein College of Ohio in the Division III title game. It is
Messiah's second national title in three years.
