K.C. Albiston, SALT LAKE CITY
Swimming
K.C., a freshman at Skyline High, led the Eagles to the state
championship, placing first in the 500-yard and 200-yard
freestyle. She holds the state records in the 1,500-yard
(18:13.39), 500-yard (5:12.84) and 200-yard freestyle (1:58.84).
Luke Watson, STILLWATER, MINN.
Track and Field
Watson, a senior at Notre Dame, set the school record for the
mile (3:57.83) at the 2003 Meyo Invitational, an indoor meet. His
is the second sub-four-minute mile ever by a Notre Dame runner.
Watson now holds both the indoor and outdoor (4:00.68) mile
records.
Ryan Needle, LOCKPORT, N.Y.
Wrestling
Ryan, a senior at Newfane High, won his fifth consecutive Joe
Shifflet Invitational, becoming the only five-time champion in
the 29-year history of the event. He is a two-time state champion
and the most successful Section VI wrestler ever, with a 223--12
record.
Jermaine Hall, DUBLIN, GA.
Basketball
Hall, a senior forward at Wagner College, had his 51st career
20-point game and his 40th consecutive double double in a victory
over Maryland--Baltimore County. He's the fourth New York City
college player to score more than 2,000 career points.
Emma Baratta, SOMERVILLE, N.J.
Fencing
Baratta, a freshman at Columbia, is 30--0 in NCAA competition so
far this season--the longest winning streak for freshmen men or
women in her school's 100-year fencing history. She recently
finished third at the sabre World Cup event in Madrid.
Sean Rierson, PHOENIX
Baseball
Rierson, a junior righthander at Arizona, became the first
Wildcats pitcher in 20 years to allow as few as two hits in a
complete game. He needed only 104 pitches (he struck out five and
didn't walk a batter) to get his first win of the season, against
UC Irvine.
Jen Huggon, PLYMOUTH, MASS.
Hockey
Huggon, a senior goalie at New Hampshire, got her 12th shutout of
the season as the Wildcats beat Maine 3--0. She has 24 career
shutouts, a UNH record. Huggon was named Hockey East Women's
Player and Goalie of the Month.
