Katie Mullinix, WESTMINSTER, MD.
Softball
Mullinix, a senior pitcher at Salisbury (Md.) University, opened
the 2003 season with back-to-back no-hitters, the first two
hitless games of her career. Those games were also the first
consecutive no-hitters in team history.
Omar Wilkes, PLAYA DEL REY, CALIF.
Basketball
Omar, a senior guard at Loyola High and son of former L.A. Laker
Jamaal Wilkes, led the Cubs to their second consecutive Division
IA sectional championship. He shot 55% from the field and
averaged 18 points per game.
R. Stanton Hales, WOOSTER, OHIO
Badminton
Hales, president of The College of Wooster, won the USA Badminton
National Senior Championship in the Grand Masters Division (60
and over) for the second year in a row. He had previously won
back-to-back junior (1959-60) and men's championships ('70-71).
Tyler McCormick, OVERLAND PARK, KANS.
Wrestling
Tyler, a senior at Blue Valley North High, won the 125-pound
state title while setting a Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association
record. He was 46-0, breaking his own record of 43 wins, set
last year. This year he also set a team record for most pins in a
season, 32.
Ryan Knippschild, RANCHO CORDOVA, CALIF.
Baseball
Knippschild, a junior pitcher at the University of Kansas, struck
out a career-high 12 batters when the Jayhawks beat Western
Michigan 8-1. He did not walk a batter and gave up only six hits
in his first complete game in college.
Beth Groselle, HIRAM, OHIO
Swimming
Groselle, a freshman at Hiram College, set 11 individual school
records in 11 events, ranging from the 50 free to the 400
individual medley. She was also part of five relay teams that set
school records during the season and was the NCAC champion in the
200 IM.
Jim Lindsay, DEERFIELD, MASS.
Ice Hockey
Lindsay coached Deerfield Academy to its first New England Prep
School Ice Hockey Championship in 19 years. It was his first
championship in his 15-year run as head coach. He retires as one
of the alltime winningest (262-74-20) coaches in prep school
hockey.
