Alou You Need To Know The Alous made their mark in the major leagues--brothers Felipe, Matty and Jesus combined for more than 5,000 hits in 47 total seasons--and Felipe's son Moises still carries the family banner

THREE UP, THREE DOWN

On Sept. 10, 1963, the day Jesus was called up to complete the
Giants' Alou trifecta, all three brothers batted in the eighth
inning against Mets righthander Carlton Willey. It was the only
time three siblings hit in the same halfinning. Willey retired
the Alous in order.

THE ALL-ALOU OUTFIELD

Five days later the Alou brothers made history by playing
together in the San Francisco outfield for the final two innings
of a 13-5 rout of the Pirates. Matty played leftfield, Felipe was
in center, and Jesus was in right. The brothers would fill the
outfield once more before Felipe was traded to the Braves in the
off-season.

POWER TRIO

The Alou brothers played in 5,129 games and collected more hits
than any other trio of brothers in big league history.

THE SERIES STORY

All four members of the Alou family have played in at least one
World Series, with varying degrees of success.

DYNAMIC DUO

Matty Alou won the National League batting title in 1966 with a
.342 average for the Pirates. Felipe hit .327 for the Braves to
finish second. It's the only time brothers have finished one-two
in a big league batting race.

DOMINICAN DANDY

Felipe was the second Dominican-born major leaguer, following
Ozzie Virgil, and the first Dominican star in the majors. He
remains the only Dominican player with 2,000 hits and 200 home
runs. However, countryman Sammy Sosa, with 1,993 hits at week's
end, was on the verge of joining him.

DADS IN THE DUGOUT

When Felipe replaced Tom Runnells as manager of the Expos on May
22, 1992, he became the fifth man in major league history to
manage his son; Moises was a third-year outfielder for Montreal.
