The Week In Television

JULY 25-31

SATURDAY 7/26 > FOX 4 PM > A's at Angels
The Billy Beane-led A's play money ball in the second half:
Oakland's 154-70 post-All Star-break record over the last three
years is the best in the majors.

SATURDAY 7/26 > HBO 9:45 PM > Fernando Vargas vs. Fitz (The Whip)
Vanderpool
After getting smacked around by Oscar De La Hoya in an 11th-round
knockout last September, Vargas (22-2, 20 KOs) tested positive
for steroids and drew a nine-month suspension. He's heavily
favored over Vanderpool (24-4-4, 13 KOs).

SUNDAY 7/27 > TNT 1 PM > NASCAR Winston Cup: Pennsylvania 500
Ironman Ricky Rudd will make his 700th consecutive Winston Cup
start--a record streak that began on Jan. 11, 1981.

SUNDAY 7/27 > ABC 1 PM > Senior British Open, Final Round
The field at the Westin Turnberry Resort, on Scotland's scenic
West Coast, needs no hyping: Tom Kite, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold
Palmer, Gary Player and Tom Watson are all in.

MONDAY 7/28 > ABC 8 PM > Battle at the Bridges
The head-to-head made-for-TV golf event pits the very rich duo of
Phil Mickelson and Sergio Garcia against the ungodly rich duo of
Tiger Woods and Ernie Els.

>> DON'T MISS

SUNDAY 7/27 > ESPN 8 PM >
Yankees at Red Sox
Ready for some midsummer drama? The last time these contenders
met, Red Sox ace Pedro Martinez (right) hit Derek Jeter and
Alfonso Soriano, prompting Yanks owner George Steinbrenner to
rail (at Martinez) and wail (he was reduced to tears when New
York rallied for a 2-1 win).
