The last time the Women's British Open was played at Royal Lytham
and St. Annes, in 1998, the average score was 77.99--the highest
in a full-field event in 14 years. Sherri Steinhauer, who opened
with a nine-over 81, went on to become the first LPGA winner to
shoot a round in the 80s since Carol Mann's 83 in the first round
of the '64 Women's Western Open. Here's how some key players
fared at Lytham in '98.
