The Week In Television

AUG. 8-14

SATURDAY 8/9 > FOX 4 PM > Phillies at Giants
It's a good bet that Giants' outfielder Barry Bonds will pad his
league lead in homers and get closer to Willie Mays's career
total of 660 in this series. Bonds has 56 career homers against
Philadelphia, his second-highest total against any team, behind
only the Padres (73).

SATURDAY 8/9 > NBC 4:30 PM > AVP Manhattan Beach Open, Women's
Final
"Sand and deliver" could be NBC's motto this weekend as it airs
the first of six AVP tour finals it will show this summer.
Defending tournament champions Annett Davis and Jenny Johnson try
to hold off the sport's top team of Holly McPeak and Elaine
Youngs. The men's final airs on Sunday at 4:30 p.m.

SUNDAY 8/10 > ESPN 2 PM > Tennis Masters Series-Canada Men's
Finals
The dollar isn't the only thing American kicking butt in Canada
these days. Top-ranked Andre Agassi has won this event three
times, and last year Andy Roddick reached the final before losing
to Argentina's Guillermo Canas.

THURSDAY 8/14 > ESPN CLASSIC 9 PM > 1980 NBA Finals, Game 6
No Kareem Abdul-Jabbar? No problem. Go retro as 20-year-old
rookie point guard Magic Johnson starts at center for the Lakers
and scores 42 points, dishes seven assists and grabs 15 rebounds
to defeat the Sixers in one of the great Finals performances of
all time. Abdul-Jabbar missed the game with a left ankle injury.

DON'T MISS

THURSDAY 8/14 > FOX 8 PM >
Raiders at 49ers
So what if this game doesn't count? The Battle of the Bay always
provides good theater on the field--and in the stands--and the
teams have played each other close each of the last two
preseasons. The Raiders will be steaming after a 23-20 OT loss to
the Niners last November.
