Rookie Watch

For the second year in a row the Raiders got an apparent gem at
tight end with a second-round pick. Last year it was Doug Jolley
of BYU; this year it's 6'5", 255-pound Teyo Johnson of Stanford,
who averaged 16.4 yards per catch in his first two preseason
games. Johnson will play in two-tight-end formations.... Though
he was indoctrinated by the Colts' Marvin Harrison last Friday,
cornerback Marcus Trufant, Seattle's first-round selection out of
Washington State, has been a physical and clinging cover man for
a needy secondary.... The Vikings' Onterrio Smith, a fourth-round
choice from Oregon, has been impressive running outside and using
his 220-pound frame to smash for yards inside.... Niners wideout
Arnaz Battle isn't playing like a sixth-round choice. On San
Francisco's winning drive against the Raiders last Thursday,
Battle, of Notre Dame, had a 15-yard catch and ran 16 yards on a
reverse.
