Who We Are (Online) A smarter, faster, better-looking SI.com
Sports is the only entertainment where you never know the ending
no matter how many times you go back. This may explain why so
many fans can't get enough, why they are relentlessly intrigued
by information about what just happened and what will happen
next. The editors of SPORTS ILLUSTRATED knew this when they put
up the magazine's first 24-hour-a-day website in July 1997.
The idea was to create a full-service online home for SPORTS
ILLUSTRATED that would support the magazine with news, statistics
and real-time scores, and would also connect readers with SI
writers for extended reporting and analysis. The idea hasn't
changed, but the site has, reflecting new technology that six
years ago would have been seen as bordering on alchemy.
On Tuesday, Aug. 19, SI.com introduced a cleaner, more flexible
design that makes following sports on the Web easier and more
interesting. A simpler, horizontal navigation architecture
translates into easier access to even more of the breaking news
and hard facts that all sports fans thrive on. Likewise, the new
site accommodates larger, and thus more vivid, images, making
SI.com the best place online to look at sports photo essays and
galleries, which will become daily staples of the site.
In the coming months a host of new features and services will
also become available--some of which will be offered exclusively
to SPORTS ILLUSTRATED subscribers. Already, SI.com is presenting
a new suite of fantasy games aimed at everyone from casual
players to the downright obsessive.
If you are already a regular user of the site, the changes will
enhance your experience. If you've never visited, or haven't
dropped by in a while, jump on the new SI.com. You won't be
disappointed.
