In The Crease

A bad sign for the Capitals, who were 1-4-1-0 through Sunday:
Jaromir Jagr, who has scored only two goals and played sluggishly
this season, seems uninterested even before the games. During
warmups in the first two matches of a recent six-game road trip,
Jagr left the ice early and did not take line rushes with the
rest of the team.... Paul Maurice, the NHL's longest-tenured
coach, at nine years, may find his job in jeopardy if the
Hurricanes don't rebound from their 0-2-2-0 start. If he were to
get axed, the two top candidates to replace him would be former
Devils coach Larry Robinson and former Sabres coach Ted Nolan....
Instead of acquiring a defenseman to make up for the loss of
blueliner Derian Hatcher, who tore his right ACL last week and is
sidelined until April, the Wings will give more ice time to
Mathieu Dandenault. Detroit coaches will ask the swift-skating
Dandenault to take fewer chances up-ice and play with more
discipline.
