Vinny Has a Win To Remember Dispatches
If the 19-14 comeback win at Houston was the last victory for
39-year-old Jets quarterback Vinny Testaverde, he made it a
memorable one. Filling in for Chad Pennington, who has been
sidelined since the preseason with a wrist injury but is expected
to return this Sunday, an under-the-weather Testaverde led New
York on an eight-play, 86-yard drive in the final 2:48. LaMont
Jordan scored the winning touchdown on an eight-yard run. "It
would certainly mean a lot to me, to go out like that,"
Testaverde said.... It took 22 games, but a Texans running back
finally had a 100-yard rushing day when quick and shifty Domanick
Davis ran for 129 yards against the Jets. Davis, a rookie
fourth-round draft pick out of LSU, also caught nine passes for
70 yards.... Packers running back Ahman Green had a costly fumble
in each of the last two games--losses to the Chiefs and the Rams.
That's 20 fumbles for Green in 56 games with the Pack. "At
different times he's fallen into a slump like this," said coach
Mike Sherman. "I guarantee we will get this fixed." ... Falcons
owner Arthur Blank was so upset over his team's performance in a
36-0 loss to St. Louis on Monday Night Football two weeks ago
that he wrote ABC a letter of apology.... Homecoming of the Week:
Rams quarterback Marc Bulger, the second-most famous passer in
Pittsburgh Central Catholic High history (to Dan Marino) plays
the Steelers at Heinz Field for the first time this Sunday.
