STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

Trent Green of the Chiefs is one of the most underrated
quarterbacks in the league. Among active passers with at least 20
career starts, Green, who has also played for the Redskins and
the Rams, ranks second in points produced per start, averaging
24.8 points in 59 starts. Only the Rams' Kurt Warner, with 30.5
points in 50 starts, has been better.

STAR IN THE MAKING
Bills third-year punter Brian Moorman

The former quarterback-safety-punter for his high school's
eight-man team in Sedgwick, Kans., has improved every season to
become one of the NFL's premier punters. After averaging 40.8
yards and 43.1 yards per kick in his first two years with
Buffalo, Moorman, out of Pittsburg (Kans.) State, is averaging
47.2 yards in 2003, second best in the league. And because he's
become experienced at navigating the tricky late-season winds of
the Northeast, don't expect his average to plummet when the
temperature does.

MY TWO CENTS

1. Gut feeling: This will be Steve Spurrier's last season
coaching the Redskins. He's found he can't have nearly the
control over an NFL team that he had over a college team. He'll
be back with a Top 20 college program next fall.

2. Bucs wideout Joe Jurevicius is due back from a torn knee
ligament later this month, and if he plays well the rest of the
year, look for Tampa Bay to try to trade Keyshawn Johnson.
Judging by the few passes being thrown Johnson's way (one catch
for seven yards against the Cowboys), it's becoming obvious that
coach Jon Gruden doesn't think Johnson is anything special. --P.K.
