Head To Head Coach Rick Pitino versus Coach Billy Donovan
SATURDAY, Noon, ESPN
FLORIDA AT LOUISVILLE
On March 21, 1987, senior guard Billy Donovan scored 20 points in
Louisville's Freedom Hall to lead Providence, which was coached
by Rick Pitino, to the Final Four with an 88-73 win over
Georgetown. Donovan later went to work for Pitino as an
assistant, but since becoming a head coach he has never beaten
his mentor in four meetings. The student will be favored to win
this one, however. Florida was 5-0 through Sunday and is ranked
No. 1 in the nation, while Louisville (2-1) dropped out of the
Top 25 after a loss to Iowa. Though much attention will be paid
to the men on the sidelines, keep an eye on Florida's 6'6"
sophomore forward, Matt Walsh (16.8 points and 6.0 rebounds a
game), who will go toe-to-toe with Louisville's 6'7" sophomore
swingman Francisco Garcia, who's averaging 17.3 points and 5.7
assists a game.
