Mike Weir MASTERS CHAMPION

No Canadian, much less a lefthanded one, had won a Grand Slam
event until Mike Weir made a six-footer for par on the 72nd hole
of the Masters to tie Len Mattiace, then beat him with a tap-in
bogey on the first playoff hole, Augusta's 10th. "Growing up,"
said Weir of days pounding frosty balls into Lake Huron, "I
started my season on the putting green of Huron Park, sinking a
putt to win the Masters."
