Three Pointer
1. Everyone should wake up to Wake Forest--and Chris Paul. The
blindingly fast and fearless freshman point guard was the
catalyst for the Demon Deacons' triple-overtime, 119-114 win over
North Carolina last Saturday, dishing out eight assists, making
five steals and playing his opposite number, sophomore standout
Raymond Felton, to a standstill.
2. Imagine how much scarier Duke would be if Kris Humphries had
stayed. After signing with the Blue Devils, the heralded 6'9",
240-pound forward got a release to stay home and play for
Minnesota. At week's end the Golden Gophers freshman was leading
the Big Ten in scoring (24.4-point average) and rebounding
(11.4).
3. In replacing Mike Jarvis, St. John's should take a hard look
at Kansas assistant Norm Roberts. Roberts, 38, doesn't have
Division I head-coaching experience, but he is a native of
Queens--where St. John's is located--and has proved he can
recruit New York City by signing Big Apple products Russell
Robinson for the Jayhawks and Charlie Villanueva for Illinois.
(Villanueva opted for UConn when Roberts and coach Bill Self left
for Kansas.)
