Eighty miles southwest of Loch Ness, Scotland's coolest tourism
draw isn't a monster but a monstrous freezer. The Ice Factor, a
12,000-square-foot subzero chamber in Kinlochleven, has the
world's largest indoor ice wall (left). The 60-foot-tall pillar
covered with 88 tons of ice offers climbers a variety of
technical challenges, including overhanging routes. The facility,
which opened Dec. 27, also features a 33-foot cave and mixed
terrain. "Our goal is to make this the premier facility for
winter climbers," says Dave Felce, the marketing director for the
Ice Factor.

The Ice Factor is about 90 miles northwest of Glasgow
International Airport. Two hours of ice climbing costs $16.
Rental for crampons, ice axes and a helmet is $4. For info call
